Age in years-months-days follows the calendar: it advances a year each birthday regardless of leap years, then counts remaining whole months and days. The total-day figure is exact — divide by 365.2425 to convert between the two views.
Edge cases
Someone born February 29 legally ages on March 1 in most jurisdictions during non-leap years. Month arithmetic has quirks too: one month after January 31 is February 28 or 29 — calendars, not math, get the final say.
