The weighted-average solve
Final grade = current × (1 − w) + final × w, where w is the exam's weight. Solving for the final score inverts it: needed = (target − current × (1 − w)) ÷ w. A 30%-weight final means every exam point moves the course grade 0.3 points.
Strategy from the numbers
Run the three scenarios shown: if even 100% can't reach the target, negotiate expectations early; if 70% suffices, sleep may earn more points than cramming. Weight concentrates risk — a 50% final makes the course a one-night event.
