Posts outnumber panels by one
A straight run of n panels needs n+1 posts — corners and gate sides add more. Standard panels span 8 feet; going custom-width changes cost fast because posts and their concrete dominate labor.
Set posts to last
Bury a third of the post depth (minimum 2 feet, below frost line in cold climates), set in concrete crowned to shed water, and let it cure 24–48 hours before hanging panels. Call utility-marking services before any digging — it's free and legally required in most of the U.S.
