Why it matters

±5 kg on ideal-weight estimates

Reading bone structure

Wrist circumference proxies skeletal breadth, which height alone misses. Dividing height by wrist sorts frames: for men, above 10.4 reads small and below 9.6 large (women: 11 and 10.1). Frame explains why two healthy people of one height can differ 10 kg.

Apply it to targets

Ideal-weight formulas assume a medium frame; small frames sit comfortably ~5% below the formula weight and large frames ~5% above. It's a refinement for setting expectations — body composition still tells you more than any skeleton-based estimate.
